Dolores Smith; Oct. 1, 2010

Dolores Cox Smith, 80, of Madison, formerly of Dothan, was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother and friend, whose life on this Earth came to an end on Friday, Oct. 1 after a strong fight against cancer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Smith.

Survivors include daughters, Selina Smith Parrish of Madison and Lisa Smith Fowler of Lexington, Ky.; son-in-law, John Parrish of Madison; special family friend, Sonja Ritchie of Lexington; and two very special grandchildren, Emily Parrish and Adam Parrish of Madison. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Marjene and Alan Chapman of Bristol, Tenn.

Visitation was from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Haven Baptist Church on Slaughter Road in Madison. The funeral service followed at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Jim Kidd officiating. Graveside services followed at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Dothan with Rev. Troy Wallsingham officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Baptist Church on Slaughter Road in Madison, Nicholasville Elementary School, RTI Reading Program, 414 W. Maple St., Nicholasville, KY 40356 or the American Cancer Society.
