Ondocsin sworn in at city council meeting
After two postponed city council meetings because of inclement weather, Ronica Ondocsin, was finally officially sworn in as the new District 7 representative.
Ondocsin replaced Bill Holtzclaw, who resigned in November to take on his new position as the State Senate District 2 representative.
“I was very excited for Monday to get here and then it didn’t happen and that was kind of disappointing,” Ondocsin said after the Jan.12 meeting. “But, I’m glad that part is over and now I can actually concentrate on being a voting member and getting to contribute.”
Ondocsin said she looks forward to managing some of the city construction including the new high school, hospital and roadwork.
“There’s lots of road work going on that we’re excited about getting finished,” she said. “District 7 wise, I would like to see some improvements on the north end of Hughes road.”
She said the city has funding to improve Gooch from Balch to Wall Triana.
Ondocsin is only the second woman to hold the position.
Being the only woman on council, she said she’ll provide a different spin on things.
“I think that’s a good thing,” she said. “There are so many college educated women in this community like me that were not working full-time, but still want to do something to contribute to the community.”
She said instead of going back to work full time, she will devote most her time to her new position.
Ondocsin holds a degree in civil engineering, which she worked in for more than 10 years, but, for the past several years, she’s been at home taking care of her two children.
The Tennessee native said she would like to run for office one day.
