First intra-state flight from HSV takes off to Gulf Shores

Huntsville International Airport’s first intra-state flight took off Thursday afternoon on May 21, transporting passengers to Gulf Shores, AL (GUF).

The sub-60-minute flight by Allegiant cuts down the 6-hour plus drive from North Alabama to the Gulf Coast just in time for the summer season.

The inaugural flight on an Allegiant Airbus holding 156 passengers was a sold-out flight.

“It’s really wonderful to see our community come in and support these flights that are flying out of Huntsville, these non-stop routes, because we know that the way we get more non-stop routes is if people use them. So, the support of our community is everything because if we want more non-stop flights from Huntsville, we have to fly the ones that we have,” said Public Relations Manager at Huntsville International Airport Mary Swanstrom.

Not only is it the first intra-state route for HSV, but it is the only intra-state route in the state.

The route will fly twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays with one-way ticket prices as low as $40.

The Gulf Shores route is one of four new non-stop routes flown by Allegiant to recently join HSV, including routes to Fort Lauderdale, FL, St. Pete/Clearwater, FL, and Sanford/Orlando, FL.

Visit Allegiant.com for more information on flight times, ticket prices, and luggage requirements.
