Madison police looking for hit-and-run suspect
The Madison Police Department is looking for a suspect involved in a fatal hit and run Thursday night.
Police say the suspect was driving a white medium-sized S.U.V., possibly a GMC with fresh damage to the front of the vehicle.
At 10:30 p.m., 20-year-old Rebecca Carter of Fort Payne was walking south on Shelton Road at Westcott Drive.
Carter walked from the Flagstone apartments to Portal Lane, and was on her way back along the west side of Shelton Road when a vehicle traveling southbound struck her from the rear, police say. The vehicle continued southbound towards Hwy 20 and never made an attempt to stop.
Attempts to revive Carter were made before medics arrived. She was then transported to Huntsville Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Rebecca’s family and friends during these unimaginable times, and we urge the community to help us locate the individual responsible,” said Chief Larry R. Muncey.
Please contact Lt. Terrell Cook at (256) 722-7190 with the Madison City Police Department with any information.
