Ondocsin named city council president

The city council did some reorganizing at its Monday night meeting when District 7 Councilwoman Ronica Ondocsin was named council president, while District 1 Rep.Tim Holcombe was named President pro tempore.

One of Ondocsin’s first official actions was naming District 6 Councilman Larry Vannoy president of the Finance Committee, which now includes Tim Cowles and Jerry Jennings.

The Madison Fire and Rescue personally presented Liz Hurley with a $10,000 check to the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund. Hurley thanked the fire department for their efforts and donated the check as seed money for “future diagnostic equipment” at the Madison Hospital, opening in February.

The council also approved a $279,951.75 payment to Lee Builders for services related to the Fire Station No. 2 construction project (to be paid from Capital Improvement budget).

In other actions, the council also approved:

-a resolution awarding Bid No. MPD-02-12 to Ed’s Public Safety for the trade-in and purchase of new police weapons (funding from departmental budget).

-a resolution approving a 13-month maintenance agreement with Intergraph at a cost of $19,470 (to be paid from departmental budget).

-the purchase of two (2) 2012 Ford Fusion Mid-Size four-door sedan vehicle from State Bid at a cost of $15,076 each (total $30,152) (to be paid from State Forfeiture Account).

-an appropriation from Madison County Commissioner Dale Strong in the amount of $800 (to be deposited into Fire Department Donation account).

-payment of $13,500 to Turner Universal for services related to Fire Station No. 2 construction project (to be paid from Capital Improvement Budget).

-payment of $4,306.01 to Osborne & Associates for services related to Fire Station No. 2 construction project (to be paid from Capital Improvement budget).
