Madison holding nuisance workshop, forum

The city of Madison will hold a citizen-oriented workshop and forum in an effort to “maintain a clean, healthy and safe place to live, work and play.”

In a press release distributed by the city, officials said properties within the city of Madison should be maintained in a condition that not only enhances the property values of the neighborhood, but also contributes to an aesthetically pleasing environment, which everyone can enjoy and be proud of.

The forum will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17 in the Madison City Council Chambers. In the workshop, interested parties can discuss nuisances within the city.

Representatives from all the various subdivisions and neighborhoods, especially representatives from the various homeowners associations within the city are invited to attend as well as the general public.

The purpose of the workshop and forum will be to receive feedback from citizens concerning nuisances within their neighborhoods using a survey for that purpose, provide citizens with information concerning code enforcement and nuisance violations and inform the public about what steps they can take to help alleviate nuisances throughout Madison.

Also introduced will be the Neighborhoods Involved in Code Enforcement, or N.I.C.E. program. This program seeks to educate the public concerning how to perform a property self-analysis, what constitutes code enforcement violations, identify property maintenance problems and explain abatement notices.

The N.I.C.E. program promotes neighbors assisting neighbors with emphasis on taking pride in the community. A panel consisting of representatives from various city departments will be available at the end of the workshop to answer questions and discuss various issues with the public.
