Photography, visual arts finalists announced for Reflections

Hundreds of students found their niche in fine arts with the Reflections contest.

Mill Creek Elementary School will host a reception for city-level winners on Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. Superintendent Dr. Dee Fowler will present certificates and ribbons to the students.

Photography winners in primary grades were Jon Tippie, first place, Madison Elementary School, “This Is a Family”; Riley Ott, second, Madison, “A Handshake Away”; Madeline Edwards, third, Rainbow Elementary School, “Flowers in Harmony”; and honorable mentions, Hayden Purser, Horizon, “Not All Pets Are Furry,” Gibson Purser, Horizon, “Different Sizes” and Carlos Foster, Columbia Elementary School, “Diversity Means Different.”

Intermediate winners in photography were Justin Byers, first, West Madison Elementary School, “Taking a Step in the Right Direction”; Kennedi Nichols, second, Columbia, “Quilting Pieces”; Kathryn Tippie, third, Madison, “Love”; and honorable mentions Alex Edwards, Rainbow, “Together Beautiful” and Mark Fritz, Madison, “Out of the Ocean.”

Middle-level finalists from Mill Creek were Donavon Mitchell, first, “The Same but Different”; Shelby Wilson, second, “Colors of Diversity”; Ally Davis, third, “Horses of Diversity”; and honorable mentions Kayla Herwig, “Can You Hear Diversity?,” and Allyson Willis, “The Colors of Leaves.” Bailey McGough of Madison received honorable mention.

In visual arts at primary level, Columbia winners were Sherwood Dong, first, “Diversity Means Friendship”; Rebecca Wang, second, “Diversity Means Great”; and Sarah Guo, third, “Diversity Means Harmony.” Honorable mentions went to Angelina Wang, Rainbow, “Diversity Means Lovely,” Emily Yue, West Madison, “Diversity Means Being Nice” and Timothy Zhu, Columbia, “Embrace Friendship.”

Intermediate winner for art were Bilal Sulton, first, Columbia, “Diversity Means Share Our Cultures”; Alice Zhang, second, Columbia, “Around the World”; Victoria Lee, third, Rainbow, “Diversity Means Harmony”; and honorable mentions Isaiah Slade, Madison, “We Are Diversity” and Ashley Phonthibsuads, Columbia, “I Am Diverse.”

Middle level finalists, all from Mill Creek, were Sam Korte, first, “Diversity of Time Square”; Megan Davies, second, “Diversity Means Madison”; Michael McClellan, third, “Universal Colors”; and honorable mention Rachel Early, “Diversity in Nature.” Collins Hess of Discovery received honorable mention for “Diversity.”

First- and second-place winners will advance to the state level.
