To help tornado survivors, donate items on May 6 at 100 Plaza Blvd.

MADISON – Local residents remembered their neighbors in tornado-ravaged Limestone County today by donating items at the Madison County Service Center, 100 Plaza Blvd. in Madison.

A steady line of people brought clothing of all types and sizes, shoes, bottled water, tarpaulins, canned food and other supplies on May 5 to Steve Haraway’s office at the service center. Haraway is District 2 Madison County Commissioner.

Volunteers will accept donations again on May 6 from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. on the west side of the building.

Needed items are non-perishable food items; drinks, including water, soft drinks and Gatorade; clothing in all sizes, including children’s sizes; tarps, blankets; plastic storage containers; toiletries and hygiene Items; toilet paper and paper towels; and cleaning products.

The animal shelter needs dog and cat food and portable kennels for the displaced animals that are living there.

For cash donations, checks should be payable to The Salvation Army.

Western Limestone County was hit by tornadoes on April 28, one tornado estimated as an EF-3. The communities of Coxey and Clements received extensive damage.
