MADISON – Christian Women’s Job Corps of Madison County Inc. is recruiting volunteers to help with meals for students at the Inside-Out Ministries site in Madison.

For fall semester, the first meal will be served on Aug. 26 during the orientation celebration for the new semester. Open dates are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in September; Oct. 13-14, 20-21 and 27-28; and Nov. 3-4, 10 and 17.

Christian Women’s Job Corps is a free, faith-based job-readiness program that provides experiences and skills to allow graduates to compete in the job market and create a brighter future for themselves and their families.

“We teach basic computer skills, job search skills, money management and, most importantly, Bible study,” Susan Elder said. Elder serves as site coordinator for the corps at Inside-Out Ministries.

To volunteer to serve a meal, individuals can access the schedule at takethemameal.com/meals.php?t=FYDF3052&welcome=1.

Elder suggests light, seasonal fare for these meals. Some volunteers have brought crock-pot soup, bread and cookies. Submarine sandwiches and cookies are another option. Stuffed baked potatoes with a dessert is a good combination

“Brown-bag lunches can be packed by your civic group,” Elder said. “A sandwich, cookie, chips and a note of encouragement” would help students.

The job corps is open to women who are 18 to 60 years old who are attempting to enter the job market after a lengthy absence. These women also may be working to get a job with better pay, Elder said.

Semesters begin each August and January. Prospective students can access applications at cwjc.net/students.

Office hours for the corps in Madison are Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Inside-Out Ministries’ address is 103 Gin Oaks Court, off Sullivan Street near downtown Madison. For more information, call 256-886-2280, visit cwjc.net or Facebook/Christian Women’s Job Corps. To subscribe to the corps’ newsletter, visit cwjc.net/donate-social.
