MADISON – Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police has offered some practical tips to “Play it Safe” during the holiday season when many people will be busy buying Christmas gifts.

Motorists should always park in well-lighted areas. Criminals are less likely to burglarize a car when people can easily see them.

Whether you’re in a car or at home, lock doors. During most robberies of cars, the owner did not lock the car.

Never leave valuables in car, the association advises. Criminals are very alert to shoppers’ habits during the holidays.

Being familiar with your surroundings is another precaution. Finally, the association warns to always play it safe and refuse to be a victim.

Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police has headquarters in Montgomery. Madison Chief of Police Larry Muncey serves as vice president.
