Fantasy Playhouse returns ‘A Christmas Carol’ to VBC

HUNTSVILLE – “A Christmas Carol” will return for two weekend runs at the Von Braun Center Playhouse when Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater presents their traditional holiday production.

“Ring in the Christmas season with Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and dozens of your Dickensian favorites as the sights and sounds of this North Alabama holiday tradition spring to life at the VBC Playhouse,” Fantasy Playhouse spokesperson Jourdan Ways said.

Audiences of all ages are invited to follow Ebenezer Scrooge on a ghostly musical journey through his past, present and future. Eventually, Scrooge finally receives the most important Christmas gift of all — redemption through the power of love, Way said.

Elaine L. Hubbard adapted this version of the Charles Dickens classic to bring a fresh interpretation to the stage. Mary Ann Bishop has composed the original music. Lucas Kiker is directing the 2017 show.

“The whole family is welcome to celebrate the spirit of the holiday season once more with Fantasy Playhouse,” Ways said.

Show times will be Dec. 1 and 8 at 7 p.m. in the VBC Playhouse. Shows on December 2-3 and again on Dec. 9-10 will be presented at 1:30 and 5 p.m.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children. Season ticket holders receive a discount when purchasing “A Christmas Carol” tickets. Group discounts for 10 or more guests are available. Call 256-539-6829 to arrange group discounts.

“Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater is grateful for the corporate support of the following local businesses for making the magic happen on stage,” Ways said:

* 57th Season Sponsor: Simple Helix

* Performance Partner: Redstone Federal Credit Union

* Student Matinee Sponsor: SCI Technology Inc.

Since 1961, Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater has brought the magic of theater and arts education to Tennessee Valley families. Through stage productions, year-around academy classes and summer camps, partnerships with local schools and a hands-on mentoring in theatre arts training, Family Playhouse provides a unique opportunity for arts education, along with a cross-generational family volunteer experience.

Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Academy is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization and is sponsored in part by Alabama State Council on the Arts.
