‘Heart Attack” team, AYSO Region 498, wins state

MADISON – AYSO Region 498 soccer team of Madison won the 2017 AYSO Girls’ State Soccer Championship.

The team won in their division for girls, 12-13 years old, at the tourney held in Hartselle recently.

This team has earned the appropriate nickname of the “Heart Attack” for their unwavering spirit and determination to win. In a typical scenario at a game, the girls score their winning point in the last quarter of their games.

The girls placed second in both the region and area tournaments until finally winning the state title. Notably, the girls allowed only two points scored against them during the four games they played at the state tournament, parent volunteer Janet Lynn said.

‘Heart Attack’ players are Rachel Frei, Jessica Cianfaglione, Rosie Kilpatrick, Maanasi Limaye, Aliyah Rashid, Karmen Romero, Brooke Lynn, Samantha Moore, Michaela Stanik, Anna Redmill, Olivia Sartor, Dezarae Pate, Zoe Salandy, Grace Shaunce and Kaitlyn Hockey.

Peter Cianfaglione and Scott Romero coach the team.

One option for further training is indoor soccer, which continues to develop and refine a child’s soccer skills during the ‘off-season.’ (ayso498.org). Because of confined space and rapid pace, indoor soccer will hone the level of a child’s speed of play, technical skills, decision making and fitness.

Indoor soccer will promote skills that transfer to the spring and fall outdoor seasons, along with school teams. Athletes are motivated to get active and on the court for competitive soccer during cold weather.

Indoor soccer can develop soccer skills, make solid friends and get out of the house when the weather may not support an active lifestyle.
