Sanders tops the staff at Discovery

MADISON – The faculty and staff at Discovery Middle School has selected Carrie Sanders as “Staff Member of the Year” for 2018.

Sanders has worked at Discovery for 14.5 years as a clerical aide. “I also keep the clock at Discovery basketball games, and I have loved traveling to watch both my sons play baseball,” she said.

Definitely a ‘green thumb,’ Sanders plants flowers at the front entrances of Bob Jones High School and Discovery. Her volunteer work in gardening has helped the schools to earn beautification awards from Madison Beautification and Tree Board.

She graduated from the University of North Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in office administration. “I have lived in Madison for 28 years. I moved to Madison after leaving the Florence area,” Sanders said.

Her husband, Scott Sanders, works as an account manager at Brown Precision Machinery.

“My oldest son, Austin, played baseball and graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville last year,” she said. “Austin is now attending Athens State University to get a teaching certificate. He also works as a training/nutrition consultant.”

“My youngest son, Matt, plays baseball at Troy University, and he is a senior,” she said.
