MCS superintendent Robby Parker: “We have 12,000 blessings to be thankful for in the morning”

MADISON – Students in Madison are nearly 12 hours from starting a new school. On the eve of a new school year, Madison City Schools superintendent Robby Parker wished students, parents and MCS employees a great day tomorrow.

“We will start school tomorrow with 12,000 of the best kids in America,” Parker said. “We will have over 1,000 of the best teachers, staff, lunchroom workers, bus drivers, custodians, SROs and volunteers in the world. Our community is blessed beyond measure.”

He also asked for patience as everyone adjusts to the beginning of a new year. “I ask everyone to please be careful, cautious and patient tomorrow. There are going to be kinks. I have opened schools 30 times prior and we are 30 for 30 in kinks. We are also 30 for 30 in fixing them,” Parker said. “We will make adjustments daily as needed. Leave early. Roads will be very crowded. Lines at each school will be long. There will be scheduling glitches. Someone will forget their lunch account. The car lines may move a little slower from the volume and possible new traffic patterns. I promise that we will fix any problem and it will be ok.”

Parker said that schools will begin with more students than they ended with last year. He had earlier said an estimated 200 to 250 more students are expected on the first day.

“We have grown every year,” Parker added. “Tomorrow is no exception to the growth trend. We will open our doors to hundreds more students than we ended with last year. We welcome them along with all of our returning students. We have 12,000 blessings to be thankful for in the morning. I can’t wait to see them.”
