BOE thanks volunteers for work in helping pass tax increase

MADISON – The Madison City Board of Education formally thanked the PTAs at Madison schools and the citizen-based Madison Forward group for their tireless efforts in the recent property tax campaign.

Voters approved the school funding measure by 70 percent in Madison and by 86 percent in Triana.

The money will be used to build a new elementary and middle school, re-purpose West Madison Elementary into a district-wide Pre-K Center, and expand the two high schools.

Proceeds will also be used for school safety and security improvements for the district, innovative programs and instructional support for the new schools.

BOE President Ranae Bartlett read a resolution commending the PTAs “for their invaluable support, unwavering assistance and zealous advocacy to improving and sustaining Madison City Schools.”

Former BOE member and Madison Forward co-chair Connie Spears praised Superintendent Robby Parker for all his work developing and promoting the strategic plan and the supporting 12-mil property tax increase.

Bartlett promised that the Board will be transparent every step of the way. “We will not let you down and will make sure that 100 percent if it goes for your kids and our schools.”
