James Clemens’ new football coach named at All-Star coaching staff

MADISON – The annual Alabama- Mississippi All-Star Classic scheduled for Dec. 13 will feature an Alabama coaching staff including Juan Johnson head coach of the James Clemens Jets. The coaching staff for the annual “best-of” game will include Benjamin Russell High head coach Kirk Johnson who selected his staff among some of the top young coaches from across the state.

“There are some good, young ones throughout Alabama and they have some tremendous opportunities in their current coaching positions and futures and I give credit to the administrations for choosing the young coaches to lead their programs,” said Johnson. “I’m excited about being a part of the staff for the All-Star matchup as it’s a great representation of the great kids I’ve coached.”

The average age of Alabama’s coaching staff is just 41 years of age. Six of the 10 on the staff compiled by the head coach won state championships last season and collectively compiled a 119-18 record in 2024 for a winning percentage of 86.9-percent.

The All-Star offensive coordinator in the Jets’ Johnson is in his first season as head coach at James Clemens and was at Baker High a season ago leading the Mobile based school to a 9-3 record in Class 7A in his first season as a head coach. Johnson will turn 41 on August 19.

“Having the opportunity to choose plays with the best players in Alabama will be fun and is a great opportunity for me,” added Johnson. “Coach Johnson (Kirk) reached out to me about being a part of his staff for the big game and I’ve had no reservations about doing this game as we are all volunteers and do not receive payment for coaching these players in the special game.”

December’s Alabama-Mississippi Classic is set for M.M. Roberts Stadium located on the campus of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg where the visiting team from Alabama has a five-game winning streak, including last year’s 35-29 victory, and holds a 27-11 edge in the series.

Players for the squad to represent Alabama will be selected later this football season.
