Rev. Joey Smith named as the senior pastor at Madison Methodist Church
MADISON – Madison Methodist Church has a new pastor. Rev. Joey Smith has recently been named as senior pastor.
In previous years, Smith has served at numerous Methodist churches in North Alabama. “I have been a dull time pastor since I was 18 years old,” Smith said. (A ‘dull time pastor” is an individual who serves part-time with a congregation.)
“God began stirring in my heart at an earlier age to preach and teach the Bible. When I was 17 years old, I gave my life back to God and accepted the call to be a pastor,” Smith said.
The staff of Madison Methodist church also includes an associate pastor; a Director of Worship and Fine Arts; an Associate Director of Worship and Fine Arts; a Children’s Minister; two pianists and an office administrator.
“I was appointed by the North Alabama Global Methodist Church (or GMC) to Madison Methodist Church,” Smith said.
As the new pastor, Smith has focused on “getting to know the people of the church and looking at ways to live out the call of ministry that is upon the church. Some changes may occur, but I am just on the beginning stages of the work and ministry that will be done for years to come.”
“The foundation of our beliefs is Wesleyan theology. It focuses on saving souls, missions and personal holiness,” Smith said. “We have a lot of outreach and mission opportunities and are focusing on increasing our missional outreach.”
The membership of Madison Methodist Church spans all generations — from young children to senior adults. We have ministries, along with Sunday school classes, for all ages,” Smith said.
“Our style of worship is traditional. The focus of ministry is on building a church community, a church community of brothers and sisters in Christ who help and walk with each other through the journey of faith that we live out each day,” Smith said.
In addition, music and fine arts are a focus of the church. “We have very talented people in those areas of ministry,” Smith said.
Sunday worship services at Madison Methodist Church are conducted at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.; Sunday School classes meet during the time between worship services. “We also have numerous small groups, Bible studies, prayer groups, missions and outreach throughout the week,” Smith said.
He is married to Kelly Smith. Joey and Kelly Smith are the parents of five children: Kaleb, Ava, Anna, Abigail and Adaline.
