MADISON – “Mad Movie- A-Thon-O-Rama!” returns to Madison Public Library with entertaining films – from campy to classic – for the remainder of 2025.

• “Westworld” (1973), Aug. 28 – Move over, “Megan.” This expose on artificial intelligence shows that robots can develop a mind of their own. Adventurous guests pay $1,000 daily to experience personal fantasies in high-tech amusement parks, which have themes like the wild, wild west to ancient Rome. James Brolin, Richard Benjamin and Yul Brenner (The Gunslinger) star. Michael Crichton of “Jurassic Park” fame wrote and directed this movie. Rated PG.
• “Elvira: Mistress of the Dark” (1988), Sept. 11 – The gorgeous ghoul Elvira pauses her emcee duties to star in her own film. She travels to Fallwell, Mass., where she inherits her aunt’s old manor and ‘recipe book’ of magic spells. Cassandra Peterson portrays Elvira. Rated PG-13.
• “Moving Violations” (1985), Sept. 25 – Goofy characters must enroll in driving school at the demands of cruel instructors and a dishonest judge. This 1980s’ romp resembles the madcap comedies of the Marx Brothers. Rated PG-13.
• “The Car” (1977), Oct. 9 — “Is it a phantom, a demon or the Devil himself ?” The dialog reveals a demonic car that terrorizes a small desert community. Surprisingly, the outlandish plot is actually scary as a 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III black coupe canvasses the countryside. Rated PG.
• “Dark Night of the Scarecrow” (1981), Oct. 23 — Four small-town vigilantes kill an innocent man; however, they’re acquitted at trial. Supernatural justice takes over in the form of a scarecrow, ready for vengeance. Rated TV-14.
• “Miracle on 34th Street” (1947), Nov. 13 – A Christmas classic. The real Santa Claus is hired to portray Santa Claus at Macy’s Department Store. Santa helps a little girl, and the city residents discover the magic of the season.
• “A Christmas Story Christmas” (2022), Dec. 11 — A remake of the original movie that sees Ralphie returning to his childhood home and the old gang. Ralphie is determined to give his family the kind of Christmas that ‘the Old Man’ always provided. Many original cast members, now adults, appear in this movie. Rated PG.
