TARCOG plans homecoming theme for Senior Fun Fest

Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments or TARCOG has chosen a theme for the 2026 Senior Fun Fest that should prompt happy memories for senior citizens who attend.

A homecoming theme will make the celebration one to remember. TARCOG is sponsoring the 39th annual festival in conjunction with Older Americans Month in May.

“Think pep rallies, tailgating and lots of nostalgic fun,” Wendy Reeves said. Reeves works as Communications Coordinator for TARCOG. “The Senior Fun Fest is a day to celebrate our aging population throughout the TARCOG Region, including those from DeKalb, Jackson, Limestone, Madison and Marshall counties.”

“Our homecoming theme is going to really dig into nostalgia as we will tailor our music, decorations and contests to the decades ranging from the 1930s through the 1980s,” TARCOG Executive Director Michelle Gilliam Jordan said. “While there will be plenty of fun, we always incorporate ways for them to remain focused on health with onsite screenings and nutritious cooking options. This is a big day for the aging population in our region.”

This year’s event will be held on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alabama A&M Agribition Center, 4925 Moores Mill Road in Huntsville. Last year 800 people attended and organizers expect that many or more again this year, Reeves said.

“A pre-event Pep Rally will be held between 9 and 10 a.m., as participants arrive to let everyone show their spirit before the festivities begin,” Reeves said.

After a brief welcome ceremony at 10 a.m., activities get underway, including BINGO and a photo booth. Musical guests scheduled to perform are Mike Cole & Richard Andrews Duo and the always popular Tina Turner Tribute. Demonstrations for karaoke and gardening also are planned.

“This year there will be a car show and other fun games and activities. Service providers from throughout the region will be there to provide information and giveaways,” Reeves said.

A boxed lunch will be served. Snacks, like soft drinks, water, popcorn and nachos, will be available throughout the event. Lucky participants will win door prizes.

Advance tickets cost $5 and are available at any senior center or Council on Aging office in DeKalb, Jackson, Limestone, Madison and Marshall counties through April 24. From April 25 to event day, tickets will cost $7. In addition, tickets will be available for purchase at TARCOG’s new office at 4976 Corporate Drive NW in Huntsville.

Madison County Commission and TARCOG sponsor Fun Fest annually. Ticket sales and local businesses also provide financial support to offset costs.
