Fishing Rodeo stocked and ready

NEW MARKET- Madison County’s Sharon Johnston Park located in New Market will be a busy locale on May 9 as the 43rd annual Madison County Commission Youth Fishing Rodeo will be held alongside the Classic Car & Truck Show. Registration for the Fishing Rodeo begins at 7:30 a.m. with the Car Show scheduled to be held from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Food trucks and vendors will be on site for both events.

To assist the youth, ages 5-15, dropping their fishing poles in the lake waters of Sharon Johnston Lake, the Madison County Commission delivered a variety of fish to help stock the 12-acre lake for the annual event. Registration forms to pre-register are available at www.madisoncountyal.gov.

Prizes will awarded in several different categories of the competitive fishing and each participant is urged to bring their own rod & feel or fishing pole. Participants are urged to bring a copy of their latest report card for a chance to win the highest average grade prize. Also, a hotdog, chips and drink combo will be available for purchase.

Bait will be provided, but participants are urged to bring their own should they want to do so. Rules for the rodeo will be posted at check-in. Each child is limited to one pole during the competition.
