Owen receives commissions
Jeffrey P. Owen of Madison was one of 46 Army Guard members to receive commissions as second lieutenant after completing the Alabama Army National Guard's Officer Candidate School.
Owen received his diploma signifying completion of OCS from Brig. Gen. Mike Summrall, the adjutant general of Alabama, during a graduation ceremony at Jacksonville State University. He earned his bars after completing a 12-month program of instruction consisting of 12 weekend drills and two 15-day annual training periods.
Piro visits Greece/assigned to USS George Washington
Navy Midshipman Matthew S. Piro, son of Patricia and Scott Piro of Madison, recently visited Crete, Greece while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington. Piro is one of more than 10,000 Atlantic fleet sailors and marines aboard the ships of the USS George Washington Carrier Battle Group and USS Nassau Amphibious Ready Group, which will be participating in Operation Enduring Freedom.
