Center offers exercise alternative

Dance Trance members exercise in the Rock-it dance class.

Want to dance the night away?

Then Dance Trance Fitness (DT), a national franchise created to provide “a hard-core fitness workout while dancing,” is the place to be.

Wyndie Meyer, who opened the fitness and dance studio in 2009, said the studio is the only one of its kind in Madison.

“We do have something very unique here,” Meyer said. “There’s just nothing else like this in Madison. It’s a fresh new way to exercise for all types of people who want to join.”

Meyer said one of the major benefits of the class is that it provides members with a fun alternative to working out. She said Dance Trance gives members a more fun way to exercise by using choreographed dance routines to get the most out of a workout.

Dance Trance is a licensed dance fitness program. They offer hip-hop dance, DT kids, boot camp, rock-it ballet and a dance class for people with special needs on Tuesdays and Thursdays for ages 10 and up.

“I love it here,” said member Charlotte Baldwin. “When I came back from a three-week vacation, I couldn’t wait to get back here. It tones your body when you get older because you use every part of your body. My body is in the best shape it has ever been in. I forget we’re working out.”

Rachel Eidson, who has been in the class for a year, said she too, enjoys the class and has seen good results.

“You don’t have to be a dancer to come here,” she said. “I didn’t grow up dancing, so anyone can do it. It also provides a good mental workout.”

Meyer said while membership is open to both men and women, they do host a ladies night out where women get together, have a few drinks and learn new dance moves.

“They have the best time,” she said.

The center offers a week’s free trial for locals to try out a few classes. Meyer said there is never a contractual obligation and members can set up their own payment plan.

Her daughter, AshLeigh, a graduate of Bob Jones High School and Cumberland School of Law, who attended classes in Birmingham and lost more than 100 pounds, first introduced Meyer to DT. But, Meyer said, it was after her 10-year-old son was diagnosed with a brain tumor that she decided to bring it here.

“Because of those reasons, I wanted to do something fun for my entire family,” Meyer said.

DT is offered 17 times a week. DT kids is offered twice a week.

“We also do a lot of charity events like St. Jude and the Animal Rescue Foundation,” she said. “The group loves it. It is so rewarding to see them enjoy themselves and get awesome results.”
