MCHCL gets into the holiday spirit

Door prize winners received homemade Christmas ornaments.

Preparations for the upcoming holidays began Nov. 13, as members of the Madison County Homemakers and Community Leaders held their annual Holiday Bonanza at First Baptist Church in Madison.

The festivities began with a gingerbread house judging contest led by Candace Garber, a long time gingerbread house enthusiast. Susan Hand won for her traditional whimsical wonderland house, and Laura Samples for her non-traditional sleepy ski lodge house.

Other notable entries were Candy Lane Cottage, submitted by Sandy Tucker; Christmas at Hobbitville, submitted by Ashley Mahanna; and The Light Keepers Christmas, submitted by Jill Stallcup.

Ron Haralson entertained the group with his tale of “Becoming Santa.” Harlason has been helping Santa for over twenty years listen to Christmas wishes of children and adults alike. A demonstration was conducted showing the techniques of creating professional looking gift baskets.
