Martha Kilgore Brown; March 2, 2012

Martha Kilgore Brown, 89, of Decatur passed away Friday, March 2, at River City Health and Rehab.

Mrs. Brown was born July 6, 1922 in Decatur, to L. H. and Beulah Lanier Kilgore.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years Paul J. “Bud” Brown of Decatur, two sons, Calvin J. Brown and wife Judy of Tuscaloosa, Jeffrey L. Brown and wife Bebe of Decatur.

She has four loving grandchildren: Julia and Pete Brown of Tuscaloosa and Jordan and Carlton Brown of Decatur. Martha was a member and longtime volunteer at First United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Riverside High School and Auburn University and retired from teaching at Decatur High School after 29 years of service. She was voted Educator of the Year 1985 by the Decatur Chamber of Commerce.

Funeral service was Monday, March 5, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Terry Greer and Reverend Sandra Locke Godbey officiating.

Visitation began at noon Monday, March 5 at the church. Burial followed at Decatur City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Pete Brown, Bill Fite, Pete Fite, Larry Fite, Kenneth Thomas, Tommy Loyd , Pat Hennessy and Paul Stanley.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to First United Methodist Church, 805 Canal St. N.E. Decatur, AL 35601
