William Richard “Dick” Dickson; July 6, 2012

William Richard “Dick” Dickson, 87, of Madison passed away Friday, July 6.

Mr. William Richard (Dick) Dickson, Corporal, US Army (USAAC), WWII veteran has passed from this earth. Dick was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church of Huntsville. He graduated from Huntsville High School and received his Eagle Scout in 1943. He graduated from Auburn University School of Architecture in 1951.

From 1956 to 1970 he served on the City of Huntsville Planning Commission, three years as Secretary and five years as Chairman. His firm designed the City Hall, and was one of three local firms that designed the Civic Center. His firm was also responsible for the design of many schools, churches, buildings and homes throughout North Alabama. He also designed the cross on Monte Sano mountain and secured the funding and support from local businesses in 1963.

Survivors include wife, Arlene Dickson; two daughters, Lynn Ross and husband, Donald, of Huntsville, and Rebecca Harris and husband, Frank, of Oviedo, Fla.; two sons, Rick Dickson and wife, Teresa, of Meridian, Idaho, and Stuart Dickson of Huntsville; two stepsons, Jackie Frost of Marianna, Ark., and Kenny Mink and wife, Charlene, of Gulf Shores; stepdaughter, Mary Margaret Long of Madison; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Corinne Hollis of Cullman, and Mary Elliott of Mobile; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, July 9 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service immediately followed at 3 p.m. with Dr. Mark Mueller officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association .
