Fashion show for American Cancer Society to allow afternoon escape

In-vogue styles will fill the runway at the Afternoon Escape Fashion Show, a fundraiser for Madison Relay for Life.

The Afternoon Escape Fashion Show, a fundraiser for Madison Relay for Life, will be held on Aug. 11.

The Holiday Inn Express will host the show on Aug. 11 with activities scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. The event will benefit Madison Relay for Life, a fundraiser and awareness builder for the American Cancer Society (ACS).

Tempting items from clothing to candies will be offered at the vendor fair from 2 to 5 p.m. The fashion show follows at 5 p.m. Guests will enjoy light snacks and soft drinks.

In 2011, Relay for Life’s first fashion show and vendor fair were held on different dates and raised nearly $2,000. “It’s a great way to get children and teens involved in such a worthy cause,” ACS community representative Beth Haynes.

Along with raising money, the show gives “an opportunity for us to reach more people in the community,” Haynes said. “It gives ACS a chance to show how we impact the community and the difference we are making in Madison.”

“Everything we do (at ACS) is a celebration. We’re in the business of creating a world with more birthdays,” Haynes said.

To-date, vendors for the afternoon escape are Silpalda jewelry, Thirty-One handbags and luggage, Longaberger baskets and house wares, Scentsy home fragrance, Premier jewelry, Dove Chocolates, Origami Owl custom jewelry and LeJeune House of Fashion & Design clothing.

Stores supplying models’ clothing are Bon Chic at 1604 Hughes Road, Maurices at 8201 U.S. 72 W, Suite A and Uptown Boutique, 1047 Jeff Road. “We’re still seeking stores to provide fashions for the models to wear,” Haynes said.

Haynes has posted a “model call” on Facebook for anyone wanting to participate.

Tickets are $5. All proceeds will benefit Madison Relay for Life. An upcoming issue of Madison Living magazine will feature the fashion show winner.
