Nesin’s “OfficeFit” session for chamber to explain office ergonomics

Madison Chamber of Commerce’s upcoming professional development session will review office ergonomics.

Physical therapist Michelle Nesin, co-owner and chief operations officer for Nesin Therapy Services P.C., will present “OfficeFit” at the Holiday Inn Express, 8956 Madison Blvd. on Aug. 21 from 8 to 10 a.m.

Nesin’s session “will keep you stronger and healthier at work … for life” and explain workstation ergonomics, posture training and exercises to prevent injuries, she said.

“Inefficient posture and poor workstation set-up can increase mechanical stress and strain throughout the entire body, especially the spine, often leading to muscle or joint pain, fatigue and repetitive motion injuries,” Nesin said.

She recommends the “stacking concept,” or building a solid foundation for work with positioning for computer typing, phone conversations and writing. “We’ll teach you how to maintain your efficient posture in motion for filing, carrying stacks of paper and repeated bending,” Nesin said.

Warning signs include sore neck, back and shoulders; wrist pain; numb hands and headaches, Nesin said. Bad habits are slumping, leaning back too far in a chair and twisting.

Nesin received a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the University of South Alabama in 1989 and completed continuing education with the Institute of Physical Art, North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy, Mulligan Institute, McConnell Institute, among others.

She was selected for post-graduate residency in proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) at Kaiser Rehabilitation Center in Vallejo, Calif. and teaches PNF, Functional Orthopedics and Back Education and Training across the country.

Nesin completed a yearlong manual therapy fellowship in Steamboat Springs, Colo. and worked with the U.S. Olympic Ski team and triathlon team. She is a certified Orthopedic Specialist with American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), site director for APTA residency, orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS) and Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT).

Nesin Therapy’s awards include Small Business of the Year, Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce; “Best Places To Work”; and Blue Ribbon, U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Nesin Therapy Services PC has three locations. For more information, call 256-679-8292 or visit nesintherapy.com and Facebook/Nesin Therapy.

Session fee for chamber members is $15 and $25 for others. For reservations, call 256-325-8317 or send email to felecia@madisonALchamber.com.
