Florence Turner Genge; Sept. 29, 2012

Florence Turner Genge, 87, of Madison, formerly of Heflin, passed away on September 29, after a prolonged illness.

She was born in Heflin, on February 21, 1925, to Irvin Lee and Ethel Turner.

She was a loving sister to her three brothers, Frank Aristo Turner (deceased), Thomas Forrest Turner (deceased), and Irvin Floyd Turner (deceased). While attending the University of Alabama, she met Graydon Harris John Genge, and their friendship grew to love when they met again after her graduation. On June 8, 1951, they began their 60-year loving marriage. After a brief period in Birmingham, they settled in Heflin, to raise their family. Over the next fifty years, Florence focused her life on caring for family and friends in Cleburne County.

Working in the family businesses, Howle and Turner Store and the Morgan-Genge Agency, she made many friends. A faithful church-going lady, she was a long time member of the Heflin Baptist Church. In 2002, Graydon and Florence moved to Madison, to be closer to their grandchildren, and became an active member of the First Baptist Church of Madison, where she made many dear friends.

She is survived by three children, Wyatt I. Genge, Gloria Delaine Sanderson, and Gary G. Genge and his wife Vickie Genge; five loving grandchildren, Aileena Genge, Stephanie Sanderson, Jonathan Sanderson, Adrianna Genge, and Virginia (Ginny) Genge.

Visitation was held at Dryden Funeral Home in Heflin, on Monday, Oct. 1, from 6 until 8 pm. The funeral was held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with internment in the church cemetery immediately following the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
