Mustangs roll over Yellow Jackets

BY SCOTT WRIGHT / FOR THE RECORD

Madison Academy, for one half, looked like a team that was coming off of a huge win and was suffering through a little bit of a letdown.

The Mustangs, uncharacteristically sloppy, held a fourteen point lead after one quarter against Winston County, but there was an uneasiness about the lack of intensity from the home team.

In the second quarter, the Madison Academy offense exploded for 23 points and took an insurmountable lead of 37-7 at the halftime break.

Senior Nick Haas had two touchdown catches in the first half, one of which included a “must see” spinning, juking run after a catch.

Winston County’s offense sputtered all night long and it was not until late in the fourth quarter when the Mustang defense made some mistakes the Yellow Jackets were able to even put points on the board.

The second half began with freshman Malik Miler personally escorting the Madison Academy offense into the end zone by taking them sixty yards in just five plays. This would take lead up to 44-7 and would signal the end for Winston County.

Madison Academy finished out the win 58-19, but also with several questions to answer before hosting Plainview next Friday night.

For Winston County, their season ends on a bitter note, but there is no doubt these young players will continue to develop and will create a great program for the coach and the community.

For the Mustangs, they will host Plainview next Friday night in an effort to keep their season alive. The Mustangs will face a daunting task, but one that can be completed.
