Dinosaurs, knights and meatballs ready for Sci-Quest spring break camps

HUNTSVILLE – Early-bird registration is open for Spring Break Camps at Sci-Quest Hands-On Science Center.
On March 25-29, Sci-Quest’s camps will combine fun and education for children in grades K-5. Morning sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon. Afternoon session hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Camp prices will increase after March 11.
During “Campasaurus,” kindergartners and first-graders can “dig into the world of dinosaurs back to the Pleistocene era,” marketing manager Jennifer Deermer said. The children will see how dinosaurs lived, died and are reconstructed by paleontologists.
Children in the “Hard Hat Crew” will explore the world of construction, design and engineering. Kindergartners and first-graders will learn to identify a socket wrench and build a birdhouse, race cars and a miniature town.
Second- and third-graders in the “Star Kids” “will take a whirlwind tour of the solar system and beyond, Deermer said. “They will uncover mysteries of airless Mercury, fiery Venus, gigantic Jupiter and ringed Saturn.” Campers will even eat astronaut food.
For “Tinker with Toys,” children in grades 2-3 will inspect broken toys and investigate motion, chemistry and electricity of today’s toys. Horns will beep, lights will blink and cars will zoom, Deermer said.
“A Knight’s Quest” gives “young lords and ladies a first-hand view of medieval science in the Dark Ages,” she said. Children in grades 4-5 will discover construction methods for castles and try their hand at jousting.
For the preceding camps, fee is $98.
For fourth- and fifth-graders, “Meatballs and Molecules” lets campers “put on a chef’s apron and discover how a pinch of curiosity can improve your cooking,” Deermer said. They will try recipes and look at the science behind dinnertime. Fee is $105.
Sci-Quest will offer early drop-off and late pickup for children attending spring break Camps.
