Virginia Carr Lavin; June 16, 2013

Virginia Carr Lavin, 92, passed away quietly on Sunday, June 16, at her residence in Huntsville.

She was born in Westminster Md., and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Virginia married John J. Lavin on December 24, 1941. She enjoyed her life as an Army wife, and lived in diverse places like Anchorage, Ak. and Izmir, Turkey.

Virginia moved to Huntsville in 2004 and became an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Col. John J. Lavin, her mother, Etta Olive Johnson, and her brother, Peyton Carr, predeceased her.

She leaves behind her loving children, Tom and Gayle Lavin of Huntsville, Patty and Bill Gerhards of Dunedin, Fla., and Michael and Susan Lavin of Conifer, Col.; grandchildren, Heidi Gerhards of McClean, Va., William and Laura Gerhards and son, Zachary of Brooksville, Fla., Stephanie and Ed Hall of Buford, Ga., and Chris Lavin of Huntsville. She also leaves behind her brother, Sterling Carr and his family of Westminster, Md.; other extended family and friends. All will treasure memories of her.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bill Etheridge officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice .
