MADISON – Cast Light Christian Film Co-op in association with CrossPointe Church will present the film, “Sam Good,” at the church on Sept. 12.

CrossPointe at 719 Hughes Road will air the film at 6:30 p.m. in the main worship Hall. Admission is free.

Dennis Packard founded Cast Light in 2010 “to serve the Lord with quality films and television shows, designed to provoke thought about our place in the circle of life. I wanted to show all who watch the films what God expects from us, using the words from the Bible and Jesus’ life.”

Completed in 2012, “Sam Good” is Cast Light’s first feature film. The group previously produced two short subjects, “The Rich Fool” and “Miracle in the Coppice.”

Packard hopes the audience will enjoy “Sam Good as a local effort on a limited budget. We’re not Hollywood and are very proud of that. We don’t make films to make money … we make films to save souls.”

Jerry Boyd is portraying the title character. The cast includes Bethany Fuller (Molly), Kasey Clayton (Jack), Debbie Russler (Emily), Curtis Ellington (Moses), Dorothy Weems (nurse). Other actors are CrossPointe members.

In the film, Sam Good is a wealthy businessman who never learned the meaning of compassion. He understands the meaning of ‘love thy neighbor’ when meth addicts save his life, Packard said.

Based on the Good Samaritan parable, the film looks “into the world of drug addiction as Jack and Molly Mason struggle to make sense of their lives.” Sam and his wife Emily struggle to stay together after their daughter is killed in an automobile accident, caused by a drunk driver.

The film’s finale is “an inspirational testimonial to how the Holy Spirit worked” in the characters’ lives, Packard said. “The story ends on a positive, uplifting climax that gives the audience the feeling that redemption is possible.”

Currently, Packard is writing Cast Light’s next feature film, “The Ragman and the Silver Bells.”
