HUNTSVILLE – Local canines will be “Puttin’ on the Ritz” at the 25th annual “Dog Ball” on Feb. 7 in the Von Braun Center’s South Hall.

“If you have compassion for homeless animals, supporting this event is one way you can help the Greater Huntsville Humane Society continue doing what they do best,” event chairperson Terry Bradford said.

The Dog Ball raises funds for the humane society to help “beloved shelter animals that desperately need care, food and shelter until they find their place as part of a loving family,” Bradford said.

Fifty of the area’s ‘Very Important Dogs’ and several shelter dogs will take the floor to entertain guests with lively walks on the runway, publicist Jennifer Price said.

Lite 96.9 radio personalities John Malone and Bonny O’Brien will host the evening. Guests will enjoy social hours and visits with the dogs at 5:45 and 7:15 p.m. Silent auction merchandise ranges from fine jewelry, VIP pet packages and gourmet dining to weekend getaways.

After dinner, a live auction will be held for painted fire hydrants, and the dogs will promenade. Closing the evening, a grand prize drawing will select the winner of two tickets to the 2015 Westminster Dog Show and a $2,000 Visa card. Paradise Pet Resort and Spa at 128 Cleghorn Blvd. in Madison is signature sponsor for the drawing.

The dog ball is the humane society’s major fundraiser. “The humane society receives no local, state or federal funding. By attending, not only are you supporting a critical service in our community, but attendees also get to visit with shelter dogs,” Bradford said.

Other key organizers for the dog ball are co-chairperson Suzanne Bright and humane society representative Debi Hornbaker.

Reservation deadline is Feb. 3. For reservations, call 256-881-8081 or visit thedogball.org or the humane society office at 2812 Johnson Road in Huntsville.
