MADISON – A routine traffic stop yielded methamphetamine and meth-making chemicals as well as the arrest of two suspects accused of possessing and manufacturing meth, police said.

According to police, Marissa Moore, 28 of Madison County and Alan Martin, 27, of Limestone County were pulled over for a traffic stop on Sullivan Street just south of Royal Drive and police became interested in the contents of their vehicle.

“During a roadside investigation, the officers found the subjects were in possession of precursor chemicals for making meth,” said Madison Police Captain John Stringer, “pseudoephedrine and camp lighter fuel and the like.  As they recognized that, they located methamphetamine in the vehicle.”

Moore and Martin were taken into custody at the scene and the Madison P.D. street crimes unit was deployed to the scene to provide support and expertise.  “They have the resources to follow up, for taking the case before a grand jury.  They can also recognize other elements of narcotics activity,” Stringer explained.

A statement from police says the May 20 stop also revealed a child in the vehicle.  It was a not-uncommon scenario that can make meth related crimes more grave, Stringer added.  “A lot of times you see children involved with people who are using or producing and manufacturing narcotics, especially meth,” he said.  “It becomes not just a narcotics issue but a health and safety issue because the children are there through no choice of their own.”

Police declined to specify the age or sex of the child other than to say “a very young child.”

Martin was booked into the Madison County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine and manufacture of meth.  He was ordered held on $27,500 bond.

Moore was booked on possession and manufacturing charges, as well as a charge of child endangerment.  She was held on $28,500 bond.
