Horizon announces winners in PTA Reflections contest

MADISON – Students at Horizon Elementary School expressed their creative skills to earn recognition in the PTA Reflections fine arts contest.

This year’s theme is “The World Would Be a Better Place If …” Students were encouraged to reflect on this theme and create an original work of art in any of six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.

In primary visual arts for grades K-2, Grason Bennett earned first place and Zac McGee took second place. In intermediate visual arts for grades 3-5, Harper Bailey was the first-place winner, followed by Max McGee in second place and Alia McGee in third.

Ethan Johnson earned first place for primary literature in grades K-2.

The intermediate literature division includes third- through fifth-graders. Grace Shaunce captured first-place honors. Other place winners were Natalia Johnson in second place; Riley Ott, third; and Bryson Tesseneer, fourth.

For primary photography covering grades K-2, Grayson Bennett received first place, and Zac McGee was awarded second place.

Alia McGee’s project was in first place for intermediate photography for grades 3-5. Gibson Purser was the second-place winner. Hayden Purser ranked in third place; Riley Ott, fourth; and Max McGee, fifth.

Zac McGee rated in first place for primary musical composition in grades K-2.

In an unusual ranking by judges, John Choung earned both first and second places for his work in intermediate musical composition among third- through fifth-graders. Alia McGee earned third place in this division.

Reflections winners at Horizon, along with other Madison schools, now will compete at the city level. PTA officials soon will announce the district winners, which will advance to state competition.
