The Madison Police Department announced on April 6 an arrest of a Huntsville man in connection with two break-ins at the parking lot of the Hogan Family YMCA in Madison.

Ellis Cooper, 34, was charged with two counts of unlawful breaking into a vehicle and one count of second-degree property theft. Each count carried a $2,500 bond for a total of $7,500.

Police allege Cooper broke into two separate cars on March 18 and March 31 to attempt to nab purses inside the vehicles. Windows were broken on both occasions.

Police also included in the release that the city has seen a recent increase in car break-ins. Recommendations from the department include locking car doors and not leaving valuables inside vehicles.
