Summer ending for teachers

MADISON – Summer break 2015 will close on July 28 for new teachers joining Madison City Schools’ ranks and for returning teachers on July 30.
New teachers will report for orientation on July 28 and July 29 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Central Office, 211 Celtic Drive. Badge photographs will be taken from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. on July 28-29 for all new employees, not only teachers, in the upstairs conference room.
Volunteers with Free2Teach will present an overview about this center for free supplies for teachers at 3054 Leeman Ferry Road in Huntsville. Superintendent Dr. Dee Fowler will brief school and Central Office staffs about district expectations, curriculum, instruction, policies and procedures.
New employees will receive identification badges and employment forms. A mentor then will guide the individuals to their assigned school.
On July 30, all district employees will meet for Institute Day, the annual back-to-school launch. Due to construction at Bob Jones High School, Institute Day will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, 980 Hughes Road in the Grace Building on the campus’ south side. Employees should park at Bob Jones and carpool to Asbury.
Institute Day celebrates employment milestones and winners of “Teacher of the Year” and “Staff Member of the Year” awards for the district. Fowler and Madison Board of Education President Dr. Terri Johnson will speak, along with keynote speaker John Croyle, founder of Big Oak Ranch in Gadsden and Rainbow City.
James Clemens High School will host Professional Development Day on July 31 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees can choose among 190 sessions that teachers and administrators will lead on subjects like the 21st-century learner, collaborative content, community-based learning, student-focus and technology.
