MADISON – Madison Hospital ‘Mamminions’ have devised creative ideas to involve the community with the 12th annual Liz Hurley Ribbon Run.

“Participating in the Hurley run helps to provide the community with the latest technology available for breast cancer diagnosis,” Amanda Clardy said. Clardy, Human Resources Manager at Madison Hospital, is leading the hospital’s participation and the 24 Mamminions.

The community is invited to attend the Madison Hospital Lucky Ducky Derby Pink Ribbon President’s Pick on Oct. 15 at 11 a.m., Pamela Sparks said. Sparks is Manager of Media and Public Relations for Huntsville Hospital.

“Hundreds of numbered rubber ducks will be released into the pond at the entrance of Madison Hospital’s campus,” Sparks said. Hospital president Mary Lynne Wright will travel by boat into the pond and draw out winning ducks for various donated prizes.

Individuals can buy ducks in Madison Hospital administration for $5 each or 6 for $25 through Oct. 14 at noon.

The Hurley run on Oct. 17 includes the 5K Race for men and women at 8 a.m. and the Survivors’ Walk at 10 a.m. The run “creates breast cancer awareness and reminds the community of how important it is to have their annual health screens,” Clardy said.

By entering the event, residents can honor individuals who currently are battling breast cancer, “those who have beat it and those who have lost the battle,” Clardy said. The Madison Hospital Mamminions will wear “the pink ribbon proudly in honor and remembrance of all who have been touched by breast cancer.”

Proceeds from the 12th annual Liz Hurley Ribbon Run will help bring digital tomosynthesis to the Huntsville Hospital Breast Center and Madison Hospital Breast Center.

This technology creates a three-dimensional picture of the breast using x-rays. “Early results with digital tomosynthesis have proven this new breast imaging technique will make breast cancer easier to detect in dense breast tissue,” Sparks said.
