Bone works to ‘kick’ cancer

MADISON COUNTY – Even as a 16-year-old, Adrian Bone has seen cancer ravage lives; his relatives have dealt with the disease. Bone wants to ‘kick’ the disease and is sponsoring the “Kick Out Breast Cancer Kickball Tournament.”
Bone is a senior at Buckhorn High School. “His family has lost someone to breast cancer, so he came up with an idea to do a kickball fundraiser. Adrian is partnering with another friend, who also has a family member touched by breast cancer,” spokesperson Wendy Reeves with Wynsum Communications LLC said.
Bone’s friend, Taylor Edwards, is helping him with aspects of the tournament. Edwards, 20, is a junior at Athens State University.
“The two met through while working at Riverton Elementary School as daycare workers. She also has a family member touched by cancer,” Reeves said.
Bone participates in Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders (TYTL) program, affiliated with Partnership for a Drug-Free Community. “Although what he’s doing is not related to drug awareness, I’m so impressed someone his age is doing what he’s doing,” Reeves said.
The Kick Out Breast Cancer Kickball Tournament will be held at Sharon Johnston Park in New Market on Oct. 24 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The tournament is open to anyone who wants to enter. Bone already has sold 70 advanced order T-shirts and has 35 teams registered to participate.
Spectators will be admitted free to the tournament and have a chance to win prizes that will be given away. Food trucks will offer concessions to the crowd.
Entry fees are $5 per player for adults (13 years and older) and $3 per player for youth (eight- through 12-year-olds). A maximum of 10 players can be on each team.
All proceeds will benefit Russell Hill Cancer Foundation at CCI Cancer Institute.
