Christmas parade promises holiday cheer

MADISON – One of Madison’s favorite hometown events will return on Dec. 12 with the 2015 Madison Christmas Parade.
The 2015 theme is “Christmas Through the Eyes of a Child.”
Businesses and civic organizations are working to design their floats. Bob Jones Patriot Band and James Clemens Jets Band will march. Numerous community groups will participate, including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, cadence groups, cheerleaders and Indian Princesses.
Parade start time will be 5:30 p.m. from the lineup site on Plaza Drive near Madison Public Library.
The route will turn south on Hughes Road and continue to downtown Madison by turning west on Mill Road, south on Church Street, west on Front Street and north on Sullivan Street to disband in Madison Elementary School’s parking lot.
In case of rain, the parade will be held on Dec 13 at 2 p.m.
Award categories are “Spectacular Sparkles” for outstanding illumination; “Elfin Magic” for a unit featuring children; “Spirit” for most enthusiasm; “Director’s Award” for best marching unit; “Mayor’s Award” for best theme adaptation; and “Parade Committee Award” for best overall originality.
Parade organizers will notify award-winning entries at Front Street, where the unit will disband. Awards will be presented at the gazebo after the parade.
Rotary Club of Madison will serve hot chocolate and cookies at the Roundhouse. Even with last-minute toy orders, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus have arranged to visit and will be available for photographs.
