St. Patrick’s parade planned March 13
MADISON – Don your green and costume the family dog for the second annual Madison St. Patrick’s Day Family Parade and Pet Walk on March 13.
Starting at 2 p.m., parade participants will walk on the sidewalk from Discovery Middle School, 1304 Hughes Road to Bob Jones High School, 650 Hughes Road and then return to the Discovery campus.
Spectators and parade marchers are encouraged to donate food items for St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank and Madison Animal Rescue Foundation (MARF). No fee is charged to enter the parade.
The 007 Venture Scout Crew is organizing the parade. St. John the Baptist Catholic Church sponsored these Scouts.
“This is a fun family event, as well as a worthy cause, so Irish costumes and dress are encouraged and will be recognized,” Venture Scout and parade founder William Richerson said.
In 2016, families walked together in comical Irish garb and their pets were dressed the occasion, too. Individuals and other groups also are welcome to join the fun.
All pets should be on leashes and have current vaccinations. In case of rain, Venture Scout will collect food donations at the Discovery parking lot.
The Venture Crew components of the Boy Scouts of America is a youth-led program. Young women and men choose the types of service activities that they pursue, including community volunteering, theater, travel, hiking, rock climbing and much more.
The Venture Crew program is open to young women and men who are between 14 and 21 years old. In addition, 13-year-olds are eligible to participate if they have completed the eighth grade.
