MADISON – S2 Intelligence Officer Joshua Cobb received his commission as a Second Lieutenant at Fort Lewis, Wash. on July 11, 2011.
He continues to serve, now in Tennessee National Guard’s 1-181st Field Artillery Regiment.
“My first assignment was to Alpha Battery of the 1-181st Field Artillery Regiment as a platoon leading in a HIMARS Battery in Lawrenceburg, Tenn.,” Cobb said. “I deployed one year later to Bagram Air Force Base in the Parwan Province in Afghanistan.”
Serving almost one year in Afghanistan, Cobb received the Bronze Star for meritorious service to a Joint Task Force. “Since then, I have served all across the state of Tennessee in Pulaski, Fayetteville and currently in Chattanooga as the Battalion’s S2 Intelligence Officer,” he said.
His family moved to Madison in December 1999 when his father, Ralph Cobb, accepted the position as Fire Chief of Madison Fire and Rescue Department. “I was in sixth grade. I went to both Liberty and Discovery Middle School and graduated from Bob Jones High School in 2006,” Joshua Cobb said.
Using a full Army ROTC scholarship, Cobb attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and earned a bachelor’s degree in professional aeronautics with a minor in occupational and industrial safety science. Currently, he works as a systems engineer with Modern Technology Solutions Inc.
He has two children: Parker, almost 5, and Gavin, 7.
Cobb’s hobbies are bass fishing, marksmanship, hunting, kayaking, whitewater rafting, hiking and reloading ammunition.
