MADISON – Melanie Davis love the people, the atmosphere and the small-town feel of Madison.

“It’s a cozy place to be, yet large enough that we have everything we need/want within just a few miles,” Davis said.

‘Most of all, I love the schools,” she said. Davis proves that statement with many hours of volunteer time for her children’s schools. “I spend much of my free time at Madison Elementary School where our two youngest attend.”

She served as Madison Elementary PTA President for three years before her work with Madison City Council of PTAs for two years. “I love being involved in the school. Many of the faculty and staff are like family to us.”

Davis was born and raised in Knoxville, Tenn., a much larger town compared to Madison. “We very rarely knew people from other schools. I love the fact that Madison is large enough to require multiple schools, yet small enough that we have friends all over town.”

She lived in Knoxville until she was a junior year in high school and then her family moved to Mt. Juliet, Tenn. “I attended Karns High School in Knoxville but graduated from Mount Juliet High School in 1989,” Davis said. “I received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn. in 1994.”

Melanie and her husband Matt relocated to Madison when he accepted a job offer with Intergraph Corporation in March 1997. “Matt is currently working for DESE Research,” she said.

Their children are son Will, 16, a sophomore at James Clemens High School; 15-year-old daughter Alex, a freshman at James Clemens; daughter Sophie, 11, fifth-grader at Madison Elementary School; and daughter Abby, 7, a second-grader at Madison elementary.

“I have been blessed to be a stay-at-home mom for the last 16-plus years, although I am very rarely at home. The kids keep me busy, but I love every minute of it,” Melanie said.

Melanie enjoys listening to all genres of music. “There is almost always some kind of music playing in our home. Anyone who knows me knows I love Adele,” she said.

When dining out, Melanie likely heads to Main Street Cafe for the strawberry pretzel salad or to Las Trojas for Mexican food.
