Taylor Edge Named Girl’s Golf Coach At Bob Jones

MADISON- Molding and developing young people into adults is what Taylor Edge takes pride in with his recent work at Bob Jones High as character leadership and ability program called EdgeGainer. The 44-year old will have an even more of an impact on the student-athletes at the school as he’s been named the new head coach of the Bob Jones girl’s golf team.

“I’ve always been interested in being a head coach of an athletic team,” said Edge. “Last year, I was the assistant coach for the boy’s team, but this is a great challenge for me.”

Edge currently works as the City of Madison Administrator directly in Mayor Paul Finley’s office. He feels he will bring value to both duties within the city and has the support of Mayor Finley.

“In addition to what he has done here at Bob Jones, he has mentored numerous local students as they’ve transitioned from high school into their college years,” said Tom Runnion, school athletic director.

Edge began playing golf at age 11 and was always an outstanding baseball player and played for the Jacksonville State baseball team for two seasons. He tried out for the school’s golf team, but according to Edge, “I didn’t make it.” He has continued playing the game as an adult and once caddied for professional golfer Chris Couch. “I’m very passionate about the game,” added Edge.

The Bob Jones golf team will return six girls next spring to the 2018 lineup and Edge stressed he’s actively looking for more involvement for the squad. A Twitter and Instagram accounts have been setup at bjhswgolf.

Edge and his wife, Mindy, have two sons, Stuart, 15 and Austin, 12. Both of the sons are involved in athletics. Edge knows developing young athletes includes what many term the “Xs and Os” of the sport. He feels he has the experience and knowledge to assist his team of girls to become better golfers. He said, “The rules within the Alabama High School Athletic Association allow me to work with my team for two hours per week through the off-season dates and I plan on taking full advantage of that situation. My big thrust is not only grow the golfer, but to grow the person by making them confident and achieve what they can.”

“Through all of my work the past four years at Bob Jones with all of the sports programs I have tried to develop high character and competitive athletes ready for their lives after high school,” said Edge.
