Proximity to family draws Hussong to Madison

MADISON – Linda Jernigan-Hussong is pleased that driving in Madison isn’t overwhelming, unlike a metropolitan area, but entertainment, recreation and shopping venues are plentiful.

Linda and husband Jeff moved to Madison from Hopkinsville, Ky., “a very small town. We had to go to Nashville for entertainment, like musicals and concerts. I love the local Von Braun Center and performing arts events here,” she said.

Linda was born in Columbia. S.C., where her father was stationed in the U.S. Army. She grew up primarily in South Alabama and Panama City, Fla. and graduated from high school in Evergreen.

Linda lived eight years in Huntsville in proximity to her sister Becky Jernigan Gauthier and brother Bobby Jernigan. She and Jeff married in 2010, moved to Hopkinsville, Ky. and retired in 2016.

The Hussongs then bought a franchise to Mathnasium and moved to Madison. Their daughter Melissa and two-year-old grandson Wyatt also now live here. “Our family here was the biggest draw, but I love this area of Alabama, too,” Linda said.

Mathnasium at 51 Nance Road, Suite 101 offers math instruction only. “We make math fun,” Linda said. “We help students build self-confidence. We also help with advancement programs that support students ahead of their peers and want to advance their math skills even further.”

In Kentucky, Linda was art guild president and promoted art in schools for disadvantaged youth. “Here, I support a local non-profit, Girls on the Run, that helps support young ladies in high school with character-building skills and self-worth awareness,” she said.

The Hussongs own Toby, an Irish Wolfhound, “a very big boy that is such a loving gentle giant. Princess is our Papillon, a very bossy little lady that keeps our Wolfhound in check,” Linda said.

“I’m a child of the 60s and 70s so that’s still what I listen to, along with some pure country,” Linda said. Favorite artists include Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Beach Boys, Journey, Elvis, Loretta Lynn and Johnny Cash.

Avid golfers, Jeff and Linda are members of Canebrake Country Club in Athens and eat there often. “Jeff is a very good cook so we eat at home a lot. I love being pampered so no complaints from me. He also cleans up in the kitchen so I live a charmed life,” she said.
