HPD invites public to south precinct’s Holiday Open House

HUNTSVILLE — The Huntsville Police Department will be hosting some Christmas fun tonight with their South Precinct Holiday Open House from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Capt. Ken Brooks, commander of the South Precinct, and his staff are inviting citizens to join in the fun at their precinct headquarters.

It’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas at the South Precinct,” wrote HPD Public Information Officer Michael Johnson on the department’s Nextdoor page. “… C’mon out and bring the family.”

The family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Activities will include face painting, door prizes, games and “much more.”

Children may also be excited to meet special guests like the Grinch, the Cat in the Hat, Olaf of Disney’s “Frozen” and Santa Claus himself.

Captain Brooks and the South Precinct CRO’s have put a lot of work into this event in order to make it a celebration for all ages,” said Sgt. Tony McElyea, HPD’s community resource officer supervisor.

In addition to enjoying the recreation, HPD is encouraging attendees to bring unwrapped toys to be donated to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program “in the spirit of the holidays.”

HPD’s South Precinct officers patrol an area of about 71.3 square miles in Huntsville, the second largest of the three precincts. The event will take place at the South Precinct station, which is located at 7900 Bailey Cove Rd. SE in Huntsville.
