National Merit Scholarship Corp. names Madison winners

MADISON – National Merit Scholarship Corporation has named seniors at James Clemens and Bob Jones high schools as winners for 2019.

Founded in 1955, the not-for-profit corporation operates without government assistance specifically to conduct the National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 400 independent corporate and college sponsors underwrite the scholarships to reward talented youth and encourage academic excellence at all levels of education.

This year’s National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential. In addition, a student can receive scholarship money directly from a business or company, Director of Public Information Matthew G. Budreau said.

Nathan P. Assaf at James Clemens received the National Merit Bentley Systems Scholarship. Bentley Systems Inc. is a global leader in providing architects, engineers, geospatial professionals, constructors and owner-operators with comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure. Assaf plans to enter the field of computer science.

Justin M. Byers at Bob Jones said aerospace engineering is his probable career field. Byers earned the National Merit 3M Scholarship. With corporate headquarters in St. Paul, Minn., 3M awards National Merit Scholarships to sons and daughters of 3M employees at all branch, plant and subsidiary locations. These scholarships endorse 3M’s belief that higher education is critical for qualified future leaders in business.

Angela N. Kinsey at Bob Jones currently intends to study computer engineering. Kinsey is recipient of the National Merit Raytheon Company Scholarship. Raytheon, a technology and innovation leader, specializes in defense, security and civil markets throughout the world. Raytheon provides state-of-the-art electronics, mission systems integration and capabilities for mission support services.

Aditi Limaye, a senior at Bob Jones, is a winner of the 2019 National Merit Scholarship. Limaye wants to enter a career in biomedical engineering. Limaye founded the Madison City Schools Beast Academy as an initiative for Madison elementary students. Limaye serves as student body president and actively participates with Math Team as co-president and Science National Honor Society as president at Bob Jones.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation supports this award with its own funds.
