Looking for something to do this week? There are plenty of events planned to help you have a blast. From summer concerts to remote control boat races, there is something for everyone.

Alabama State Games XXXVII Opening Ceremony

In 2019, the thirty-seventh annual Alabama State Games Opening Ceremony will be hosted by the city of Huntsville, and Madison County.

Following in true Olympic fashion, the Alabama State Games takes pride in the Opening Ceremony, which features Olympic traditions such as the Parade of Athletes, the running of the Olympic Torch, and lighting of the Olympic Flame. The Opening Ceremony will be televised Live statewide on Alabama Public Television and include an exciting mix of hi-tech lasers and pyrotechnics, musical entertainment, and feature outstanding individuals from the state and surrounding community.

 

Operation Kidsafe Ribbon Cutting

Grand opening of the Operation Kidsafe Year-Round Child Safety Center. Refreshments will be served. The system will be on site and will be demonstrated. The center will provide local children with an Amber Alert Ready Bio Card. The program is free and private. Forms are ready to hand to law enforcement in a family emergency, parent gets the only record of the visit.

For the third year in a row, the final night of Concerts on the Dock presents Huntsville’s ‘anti-fest!’ In an attempt to bring the regular attendees of our classic concert series a little something out of the ordinary, BonnaWHO? can get loud and weird while still staying as family friendly. Five stages throughout the property, including the first time in the Barking Dog Theater (2nd Floor South) will host over a dozen acts in three short hours. Family Fun Festival & Expo is filled with free activities, door prizes, giveaways, music, dancing and more. Some of the free activities included inflatables, face painting, train rides, bumper cars and crafting classes. The event has three levels of focus for vendors to use as a guideline; Live, Laugh, and Learn. Live focuses on information about lifestyle, Laugh refers to one’s quality of life and entertainment and learn focuses on education and development. Sunday nights soon will usher in the new week with an evening of entertainment when County Line Road Concerts open on June 2. Heritage Church is sponsoring the free concert series on Sundays during June at 6:30 p.m. in Heritage Park, adjacent to the church at 29768 Huntsville Brownsferry Road. This location is about one-quarter mile west of Walgreen’s on County Line Road.

Food trucks will sell their unique recipes for savory and sweet choices. To-date, Bad News BBQ, Fire & Spice, Highway Kabobery, I Love Bacon and Sweet Temptations plan to attend.

JED Eye is scheduled on June 9. The five talented musicians banded together to share their individual music interests. They have played many festivals and venues, and their music keeps audiences on their feet. Their chart list covers the gamut from 3 Doors Down to Pearl Jam to the Rolling Stones to ZZ Top.

 

Model Power Boat Association’s International Regatta

There will be over 400 model boats racing throughout the week.  The speeds will be anywhere from 50mph to 90mph. The event starts with speed trials, oval runs, and straight away runs. Heat racing starts on Tuesday with six boats on the water at a time.
