    Here are this week’s summer fun events in and around Madison

    There is plenty to do this week in and around Madison. Here are few of the family-fun events planned.

    For their fourth bout of the 2019 season, the Dixie Derby Girls challenge Vette City Roller Derby.  The Rocket City Rebels and Nashville Jr Roller Derby will start at 4:30. Join the after Party at Rocket Republic Brewing Company (289 Production Ave., Madison, AL 35758).

     

    Tangled String Music Festival

    This one-day outdoor music fest in downtown Huntsville will feature:

    • Big Sam’s Funky Nation, horn-heavy, boisterous urban funk act out of New Orleans
    • Southern rockers Drivin N Cryin, the Atlanta-based favorites with a gold record and blend of driving rock and country twang
    • Ethereal roots musician Lera Lynn of Single Lock Records in Muscle Shoals
    • The striking picking of white-hot guitar prodigy Daniel Donato of Nashville
    • Raw, winsome blues of Birmingham’s Early James and the Latest

    And this year, Listen Local will have their own stage and local lineup. There will be beer, wine, food, an artist market and more. Gates open at 3 pm.

     

    Armed Forces Celebration Week

    June 23 – June 29

    Recurring daily

    Area attractions honor members of the U.S. military by offering FREE admission during this special week of celebration for their service. Military id is required.

    • U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum – active/retired military and immediate family
    • Huntsville Museum of Art – $2 off each admission for active and retired military and their immediate family (includes one adult and up to five children under the age of 18) with valid military ID, 15% off in the Museum Store for active or retired military with valid military ID, plus a Yoga Joe Scavenger Hunt (find a Yoga Joe that’s hidden in the Museum, return it to the Museum Store for a free Suzy’s Pops!)
    • Huntsville Botanical Garden – active and retired military (ID required) and their immediate family June 22-30
    • Weeden House Museum & Garden – active/retired military and immediate family

    Heritage Church is sponsoring the free concert series on Sundays during June at 6:30 p.m. in Heritage Park, adjacent to the church at 29768 Huntsville Brownsferry Road. This location is about one-quarter mile west of Walgreen’s on County Line Road.

    Food trucks will sell their unique recipes for savory and sweet choices. To-date, Bad News BBQ, Fire & Spice, Highway Kabobery, I Love Bacon and Sweet Temptations plan to attend.
