BACK TO SCHOOL: Madison Police reminds parents of a valuable tool in keeping students safe

MADISON – School will be starting Aug. 7 and the Madison Police Department wants to remind parents of an important tool in keeping their children safe: Text-to-Protect.

As we get closer to the start of school there is an important number you should have in your phone as well as your child’s phone: 256-604-2345.

This Text-To-Protect number is available to all citizens to report confidential information and tips to protect students and schools. This number can also be used to leave a voice mail message, or if you prefer you can email your tips to texttoprotect@madisonal.gov.

This number is monitored by our dispatchers at the 911 Center 24/7,” said a post from the Madison Police. “Our SRO’s will follow-up on tips with Madison City Schools administrators. Our goal with this program is to keep your children safe. If you see or hear something which may have an effect on students and/or school safety please report it to law enforcement for follow-up by using this number.”

Posters about the Text-To-Protect program will be placed in our middle and high schools reminding the students of its availability.
